The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic was confirmed to have spread to Spain on 31 January 2020, when a German tourist tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in La Gomera, Canary Islands.

On 24 February, following a COVID-19 outbreak in Italy, Spain confirmed multiple cases related to the Italian clusters, originating from a medical doctor from Lombardy, Italy, who was on holiday in Tenerife. Afterwards, multiple COVID-19 cases were detected in Tenerife involving people who had come in contact with the doctor. Other cases involving individuals who visited Italy were also discovered in mainland Spain.

As of 25 March 2020, there have been 47,610 confirmed cases with 5,367 recoveries and 3,445 deaths in Spain according to authorities. At least 3,166 people hospitalised are in intensive care (1,050 in the Community of Madrid) and more than 350,000 tests for COVID-19 have been conducted. Since 13 March 2020, there have been registered cases in the 50 provinces of the country. Only on the islands of La Graciosa (Canary Islands) and Formentera (Balearic Islands) has there been no registered positive cases. On 25 March 2020, the death toll in Spain surpassed that of mainland China; only Italy has a higher death toll globally.

Other cases involving people who visited Italy were discovered in southern Spain. 

As of 19 March 2020, there were 17,395 supported instances with 1,107 recoveries and 803 deaths in Spain based on government. At least 272 hospitalised patients have been in intensive care (180 at the Community of Madrid) and over 17,400 individuals have experienced evaluations for COVID-19. Since 13 March 2020, there were enrolled cases from the 50 states of the nation. Just about the islands of El Hierro (Canary Islands) and Formentera (Balearic Islands) have there been no documented positive scenarios.
